The Word. Hosts Launch of Benetton’s S/S 2024 Collection in Chandigarh

Equestrian influences are a leading trend in the United Colors of Benetton’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
Classics don’t ever go of style, and the Spring/Summer 2024 collection by the United Colors of Benetton makes a strong case for fashionable essentials for the new season. Celebrating the Spring/Summer 2024 launch, The Word. Magazine hosted a special evening in Chandigarh at Elante Mall, where the city’s most stylish women came together to enjoy the new outfits by the iconic Italian brand.
Attended by the city’s finest content creators, designers, and style savants, the variety of styles on display found favour with the different aesthetics of the woman. Guests were introduced to the season’s latest line-up, over conversation, canapés, and good cheer.
Varied and wearable, United Colors of Benetton’s latest offerings feature a wide range of designs and prints, for every personality and every mood. While a casual evening out with friends lends itself well to the new range of denim separates—that feature subtle rhinestones on them, the miniskirts are just right for a party later in the night.
Equestrian motifs are a major trend this season, and UCB’s S/S 2024 collection is riding strong on it, in the form of the galloping horse motif repeating on the collared dresses and printed on casual T-shirts. There are cable knit sweaters as well, with a white stallion, and the many silhouettes take into account the various occasions where a fashion statement may need to be made.
The overarching theme for this season encourages wearers to ‘Be On’—to be aware of one’s personal style while enjoying the freshest trends, which marry pop-inspired elements with utility-driven designs. And the range is certainly eclectic…shirts featuring line drawings of flowers punctuated with bold colours, and another set of designs presenting soft-toned dandelions on light, sleeveless sweater. The inclusiveness of design extends to the silhouettes, too, with oversized denim jackets and jeans given as much attention as fitted dresses.
The inspirations for the season are varied, too. While the ’70s lend a distinct retro style with bell bottoms and buttoned-down shirts, the naughties have been remembered as well, with cardigans and crew-neck sweaters. And, of course, Benetton’s polo-inspired capsule collection offers timeless pieces suitable for all wardrobes.
An appraisal of the current collection would be amiss without a look at United Colors of Benetton’s legacy with regards to global fashion, and, in particular, India’s style over the past decades. Launched in Italy in 1965, Benetton caught the pulse of the times, and quickly rose to iconic status through its play of colour and print. Bright, vivd tones have formed the hallmark of the brand, from tone-on-tone to colour-blocked separates. Sharp tailoring has also been the cornerstone of their pieces, marrying the casual with chic, and even predicting athleisure decades before it became a trend.
But in addition to the designs, United Colors of Benetton was a flagbearer of inclusivity, with plenty of campaigns touching upon themes of humanity, acceptance, and love. Showcasing models of all races together, talking about gender, and more, the fashion brand opened new ways of thinking much before its time.
Against this backdrop, Benetton’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection finds special space in the wardobe, as it offers new basics and great icons from the brand. Designed for “anyone and everyone”, this range serves as a reminder to invest in pieces that will be cherished season after season, as it endures the changing trends and wear and tear. The accessories complete the look with pendants, rings, and earrings with the horse motif on them, delightfully happy watches, and more.
And for the men, there are practical pieces, mixing fun fruit prints with perfectly cut outerwear, trousers with pleats, and relaxed and minimal knitwear.
At the Chandigarh launch of this collection, guests included content creators Viddhi Giri, Neha Mahajan, Vaishnavi Boora, Simran and Srijan Chanta, Amrita Dhariwal; restaurateur, Avantika Joshi Bajaj; designers Jasmine Bains, Simran Narula, and Sonam Cheema; make-up artist Parul Duggal; and Ankur Batra, Madhavi Lamba, Rashmeet Kapoor, Neha Sidhu, Anisha Malik, Anureet Grewal Ghuman, and many more.
